Factory Reset Protection

Updated today

Factory Reset Protection is a Google feature for Android Enterprise. This protection prevents other people from using corporate devices, even if they perform a factory reset or install new firmware.

In either case, when the device is restarted, it can only be reused if the Gmail account that was used to set up Android Enterprise is entered.

Prerequisites:

  • Android 5.1+

  • Fully managed (Device Owner) or Fully Managed with Work Profile

By clicking on the Enterprise menu, you can check the linked account.

To enable Factory Reset Protection, you must click on the Settings menu. Then, select the desired settings. And enable (by moving the toggle to the right) the Factory Reset Protection option.

A screen will be displayed to Continue with Google.

Add the @gmail account registered in Enterprise.

The setting will become active and will show the account that must be added to the devices if they are restored and have this setting active.

Attention: If you are going to use the "Erase data" function on a device that has the Factory Reset Protection setting active:

You will receive the following message:

If you prefer, you can check the option "Force removal of Factory Reset Protection, if the device has this option configured". It will ignore this setting. If you do not check the option, the device can only be restarted when it receives the registered email account.
